Dear friends,
Buttala is the most poverty stricken Divisional Secretariat in Uva province.
In this area, most of the people are farmers. But due to severe drought
condition our people are unable to do any proper cultivation. Though they
live with all these hardships they have great expectation
Most of these hardships are due to lack of irrigation facilities, where
the farmers in the area solely depend upon rain water for their cultivations.
Some times it doesn’t work due to lack of sufficient rains. As a
result, there is no growth in the lives of our people.
In order to uplift the lives style of these people we have chosen to educate
their children. In other wards the main emphasis of our work is to give
an education to the children.
The Roman Catholic church at Buttala is carrying out various social services.
It also runs pre-schools in the age group 4-5, with the help of trained
teachers; we too conduct free English and computer classes for both school-going
children and for those who are working.
These are some of the members of my parish.

We are almost heading towards the season of Christmas This year too we
thought of celebrating Christmas with these poor people and giving them
some gifts It is only with your help and generosity we can make this event
a success.
We have about 120 children. they need specially school items.
(For your convenient sake I would like to suggest that if we can give a gift that is useful for their schooling in the new year 2008..

While looking forward for your magnanimous benevolence and kind assistance, I offer my anticipated thanks. I also would like to mention here that Mr. Tyrone has helped me lot to uplift the living condition of my parishioners. He is a generous and active member of my parish. Mrs. Dilkie & he gave gifts to all the children of my parish for last year Christmas. I thank him also on behalf my parishioners.
2)Need help for Educational facilities
There are 150 students in our pre-schools. Poor people of the area come to this pre-school.

Running a pre-school means we are helping more than 150 families and ultimately the whole society.
We don’t like to close down pre-schools because they are the only way that we can reach out to the poor and uplift them.
We need your help for these pre-schools.
3) Need help for Computer Center
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - There is a great demand for computer study as it has become the need of the day. Most of the computer causes are very expensive in this area. As a result, only those who are rich can afford to follow these IT causes. Therefore we have two objectives in opening this center
Development objectives.
To improve education and training of young children, unemployed youth, and in this way contribute to improve their employment opportunities and income situation
Immediate objectives.
To provide an opening for youth from low-income group families in Buttala AGA Division who have been left out of other training programs and jobs for no fault of theirs.
Having recognized its need we have opened a computer center for our children. There are about 60 students both young and adults who follow this cause. For the moment we have introduced office package and it is a Six months cause. A Cause on Graphic (Photoshop, CorelDraw) will be also stared at the end of this cause.
We need your help to continue this project. Especially we are in need of a photo-copier.
The price of a Photo-copier Rs. 117000.00. We humbly request your kind help to purchase this for the benefit of our children.
